August 26-28 we spent with Julie & Ryan in Denali National Park. We rented a cute little cabin in the little town and had some delicious meals at both Salmon Bake and Alpine Lodge. The day we took the bus into the park (cars not allowed, so you need to hop on a green bus that will take you in) and that ride took 8 hours. It was very pretty out there, but most of the animals we saw - grizzly, caribou, dall sheep, fox, and eagles were very far away and only look like little dots in the camera. However, it was a great and relaxing ride on gravel roads. When we got to the Eielson Visitors center, the end of our one way bus ride, it was so cloudy and rainy that we didn't get to see McKinley from there. The mountains and quietness of the park is definitely worth seeing and I'm sure many people get to see different wildlife at different times of the day.
We did get a close-up of a grizzly driving into the park as he was just walking along the side of the road... that was the closest we got to bear all day, but in all we probably saw over 15 grizzlies in the park and many animals off in the distance.
Happy birthday to Julie who celebrated her birthday the day we went into the park. Hope you had a great birthday! Thanks again for all of your wonderful hospitality - both you and Ryan - and we hope to see you again soon!!!
